Spanish Passport / DNI photo — requirements & how to

Spanish ID photos ('foto carnet') use a distinctive small format: 32 × 26 mm (height × width), with the face filling about 70–80% of the photo height. The background must be plain, uniform white and the head fully uncovered — the official requirement of the Spanish Interior Ministry for the DNI; the same format applies to the passport and driving licence. Because it's smaller than the standard 35×45 mm, a photo prepared for another country won't fit — use the tool to size it exactly.

Key rules for Spain

  • 32 × 26 mm (height × width), recent — usually within 6 months
  • Plain, uniform white background — no shadows, textures or other colours
  • Head fully uncovered (except religious reasons); no dark glasses or anything covering the face
  • Front-facing, neutral expression, mouth closed
  • Same photo format for the DNI, passport and driving licence
