US Green Card / Immigrant Visa (DS-260) photo — requirements & how to

Green card and immigrant visa photos follow the US 2×2 inch standard — but where you submit the photo matters. For consular processing (Form DS-260) you bring two identical printed photos to the interview; for adjustment of status inside the US (Form I-485), USCIS takes your photo at a biometrics appointment and no longer accepts self-submitted photos.

Key rules for Green Card

  • Since 12 December 2025, USCIS no longer accepts self-submitted photos for green cards processed inside the US (Form I-485) — your photo is taken at a USCIS biometrics appointment
  • The self-provided 2×2 in photo applies to the consular route (Form DS-260): bring two identical prints to your interview
  • Taken within the last 6 months, colour only, no eyeglasses (rare medical exceptions)
  • Same photo standard as the US passport: head 25–35 mm, white or off-white background

How to make your Green Card photo here

  1. Upload a straight-on photo (plain light background, even lighting, no glasses).
  2. Check the blue guide — chin to crown must fit the head guide. Use “Auto-fit head” first.
  3. Watch the live checks: head size, centering, resolution, background.
  4. Click Generate and download the digital size and/or the 4×6″ print sheet.

FAQ

Do I still need to bring photos to my green card interview?

For consular processing (DS-260), yes — two identical 2×2 inch printed photos. For USCIS applications inside the US (Form I-485), your photo is taken at a biometrics appointment; self-submitted photos are no longer accepted.

What size are green card photos?

2×2 inches (51×51 mm) — the same as a US passport photo: white or off-white background, head 25–35 mm from chin to crown.

Can I use the same photo as my passport application?

The photo standard is identical, and the same photo session can work for both — as long as the photo is recent (taken within 6 months).
