Japan My Number Card (個人番号カード) photo — requirements & how to
Japan's My Number card photo is a standard 45×35 mm portrait — face centred, no hat, taken within six months. Apply online with a JPEG of 480–6000 pixels per side (20 KB – 7 MB), or send a printed photo by mail with your name written on the back. Retouched photos get rejected.
Key rules for My Number card
- 45 × 35 mm, face centred, no hat, no background fuss — plain surface, no shadows
- Face length (chin to crown) 34 ± 2 mm; crown 4 ± 2 mm below the top edge
- Mail applications: write your name and date of birth on the back of the photo
- Online upload: 480–6000 px per side, 20 KB – 7 MB; HEIC not accepted
- Digitally edited or retouched photos may be rejected
- Residence Card (在留カード) uses a different size — 40×30 mm
