UK Visa photo — requirements & how to
UK visa applications take a digital photo — there is no millimetre print size. Upload a JPG of at least 600×750 pixels (50 KB – 6 MB) showing your head, shoulders and upper body on a plain light-coloured background. It must be a fresh photo, different from the one in your passport or ID card, and must not be edited with filters.
Key rules for Visa (digital)
- Taken within the last month (current UKVI guidance) — don't reuse an old photo
- Plain light-coloured background, clear contrast with your face
- Head, shoulders and upper body visible; face centred and in focus
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open and visible (no hair in front of the eyes)
- No head covering except for religious or medical reasons; glasses only if unavoidable (no sunglasses or tinted lenses)
- Not altered by software or filters — no red eye, no shadows
