German Driving Licence (Führerschein) photo — requirements & how to
German driving licence applications still use a printed biometric photo: 35×45 mm, face 32–36 mm, on a light single-colour background. The May 2025 digital-only rule for passports and ID cards does not apply here — you hand in a normal printed photo with your Führerschein application.
Key rules for Driving licence
- 35 × 45 mm biometric photo, portrait, no border — FeV § 21 requires a photo matching the Passverordnung
- Face 32–36 mm (70–80% of the photo height)
- Neutral expression, eyes visible, no filters, no head covering (except religious)
