NSW Photo Card photo — requirements & how to

NSW Photo Cards are normally photographed in person at a Service NSW centre. If you can't attend for medical reasons, Transport for NSW runs a postal photo-kit: you send a passport-sized 45×35 mm colour photo (taken within 6 months, plain light background) on semi-gloss paper. This page prepares that photo.

Key rules for Photo Card

  • Default route: visit a Service NSW centre to have your photo taken in person
  • The self-photo photo-kit exists for people who can't attend a service centre for medical reasons (with a GP/specialist certificate)
  • You must have previously held a NSW Driver Licence or Photo Card with your photo already on the NSW database
  • Photo: colour, passport size, taken within 6 months, plain light background, no hats, head and top of shoulders
  • The photo is checked against the image already on file
This is an unofficial summary compiled from Transport for NSW — Photo-kit for a NSW Photo Card application (Form 5749) (verified 2026-10-09). Always confirm with the official source before submitting: Transport for NSW — Photo-kit for a NSW Photo Card application (Form 5749).

How to make your Photo Card photo here

  1. Upload a straight-on photo (plain light background, even lighting, no glasses).
  2. Use “Auto-fit head”, then zoom and drag so your head and shoulders sit naturally in the frame.
  3. Watch the live checks: centering, resolution, background.
  4. Click Generate and download the digital size and/or the 4×6″ print sheet.
